Direct Admission in BDS – The Complete Guidance

Before starting to give you an idea about admission, I would like to welcome you to one of the best educational blogs in India – ZoomColleges.com. I, Vishnu Nambiar, am the co-founder of the company having more than 12 years of experience in the field of career guidance and counseling.

Yearly, 2500+ students send me emails and texts asking about the admission procedure and fees for BDS. This is because there is no proper information about the state and deemed counseling procedures for taking admission to the best dental colleges in India.

Myths About Direct Admission to BDS

For medical and health sciences courses, direct admission is not an easy process. To be frank, we can’t call it exactly a direct admission.

There are a lot of procedures and documentation and also have to attend the counseling conducted by the state or deemed authorities.

I will just list down the procedures and give you a basic idea about direct admission to BDS. If you are looking for professional personal guidance, then you can contact me directly via call or WhatsApp message at +91-9535726644.

Direct Admission Eligibility Criteria for BDS

Before explaining the admission procedures, I would like to let you know the basic eligibility criteria for taking BDS admission.

  • The candidate must qualify NEET-UG entrance exam of the same academic year.
  • 50% percentage marks in 10+2 PCB from any recognized board.
  • The candidate must be at least 17 years old, before 31st December of the year of taking admission.

There are very very basic eligibility criteria for taking BDS direct admission in India.

If you meet the following eligibility criteria, then you can easily get BDS admission directly.

Direct Admission Procedure

The admission procedure will be slightly different for each state, so here I will be mentioning the admission procedures.

A month after the NEET-UG results are published, each state will start conducting counseling for admission to different colleges.

Once the dates are out, the procedure starts.

The procedure is almost similar for MBBS too and if you are interested, you can go through my detailed article about direct admission in MBBS.

Step #1 – Registration

You must register for the state counseling by paying a registration fee, ranging from Rs.1000 to Rs.5000 depending on each state. While registering, you have to upload copies of your documents. In the next section, I will provide you with the list of documents required for registration.

Step #2 – Security Fees

After that, you have to pay a security fee to the counseling authority which will be adjusted in your first-year fees. A few states like Karnataka don’t take any security fees in the first round of counseling. The security fees range from Rs.1 lakh to Rs.2 lakhs.

Step #3 – Document Verification

Now the counseling authority will verify your documents for authenticity. In a few states, it might be online, and in a few, it might be offline. If this procedure is offline, then it is compulsory for the student to be physically present with the documents.

Step #4 – Option Entry – Round 1

After the documents have been verified, you have to choose the college where you want to take admission. You have to log in to your account using the login ID and password.

Step #5 – Option Entry – Round 2

This is the same as the first round.

Step #6 – MOP-UP Round

Most of the states, conduct MOP-UP rounds offline. In this round, the candidate must be physically present with all the original documents.

Step #7 – Stray Vacancy Round

All the vacant seats after the MOP-UP round will be allotted in the Stray Vacancy Round.

Step #8 – Allotment and Admission Confirmation

If you have been allotted a seat in any of the rounds of the counseling, you have to download the allotment letter and admission order and also pay your tuition fees to confirm the admission.

Approx. Fee Structure

There are 350+ dental colleges in India, and I will give you a general idea about the fee structure for BDS through direct admission.

The fee structure for BDS starts from Rs.1.5 lakhs per annum to Rs.7 lakhs per annum.

The fee structure depends on many factors like quality, location, university, etc. So never think that the higher the fees, the better the college.

No! There are colleges which charge Rs.2 lakhs per year and also have the best education and quality.

Extra Fees: Apart from the tuition fees you will also have to pay extra for a hostel, food, books, examination, dental kit, etc.

My Recommendation

I have personally seen dental colleges that can provide you with a complete package of Rs.8 lakhs for the whole course and have the best quality education.

You have to pay around Rs.2 lakhs per year for 4 years, which will include your tuition fees, hostel, food, and all the extra charges. 😀

If you need more details on the college do let me know.
