Vaidyaratnam Ayurveda College started in the year 1976. The founder of this prestigious institution, the late Ashtavaidyan E.T. Neelakandan Mooss established a serene and sprawling campus in Thaikkattussery, a testament of its commitment towards realising the vision of imparting excellent Ayurvedic education and driving innovation in this field. The institution is under the aegis of the Vaidyaratnam Ayurvedic Educational Society which is registered by the Literary, Scientific, and Charitable Societies Registration Act XII/1955. 

Vaidyaratnam Ayurveda College has an enriching legacy with an interconnection of its founder’s lineage. His father, Sri. Narayanan Mooss,  due to its renowned healing legacy received the prestigious title of “Vaidyaratnam” from the then Viceroy of India, Lord Reading. To further realise his father’s dreams of advancing the practice of Ayurveda and providing global attention, in 1941 he laid the cornerstone of Vaidyaratnam Oushadhashala.  Eventually,  Vaidyaratnam Ayurveda College, Vaidyaratnam Nursing Home, and Ayurvedic Research Centre were established.

Vaidyaratnam Ayurveda College has received recognition from the National Commission for Indian System of Medicines. The college is affiliated with Kerala University of Health Sciences, Thrissur. Government of India, recognising Sri. Neelakandan Mooss’s pioneering contributions in the field of Ayurveda and towards the upliftment of the community, presented him with the prestigious national award, “Padmashree,” in 1992.

Courses Offered

Vaidyaratnam Ayurveda College offers the following UG course – Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery Course. The sanctioned annual intake of the course is 75 students. The applicants wishing to get admitted in this course must obtain a minimum aggregate of 50% in Biology separately and 50% in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology combined in the Higher Secondary Examination or its recognized equivalent. The course spans for 5 years and six months and includes a one-year mandatory internship period. 

Vaidyaratnam Ayurveda College also offers a PG Programme in Kayachikitsa specialisation.  The annual intake capacity is 5 students. Applicants looking for admission to this course must hold a BAMS (Ayurvedacharya) or equivalent degree from a recognized university with a minimum aggregate of 55%.
