







Government Ayurveda College, Kannur was founded in 1992 after the then Minister for Finance of the Kerala Government, in the 1991-92 Budget Speech, announced the decision of establishing a Government Ayurveda College in Kannur District. Dr. M. Govindan, the then Superintendent of the Government Ayurveda College Hospital in Tripunithura was designated as the Special Officer and on January 15, 1992, he became the first Principal of this prestigious institution.
The inaugural batch of Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS), at that time started with an initial intake capacity of 30 students per year. On June 1, 1998, to further expand their infrastructure and growth, the college shifted to a newly constructed facility at Pariyaram. With the availability of a 150-bedded hospital at close proximity, it further provided a practice ground for students as well as house surgeons.
Eventually, the capacity for the BAMS course increased to 60 students, beginning from the academic year 2018-19. The college worked diligently to provide excellent quality education in the field of Ayurveda and finally in the academic year 2020-21, introduced postgraduate courses in Salyathantra, Rasasasthra, Salakyathantra, and Bhaishajyakalpana. The college takes pride in presenting 14 functional departments, covering a diverse array of specialities in Ayurvedic medicine currently. Dr. Sindhu C presently works as the Principal of Government Ayurveda College, Kannur, Pariyaram, assuming the office on June 15, 2021, continuing the goal of reaching the highest standard of Ayurvedic education and healthcare services.
Courses Offered
